Ivan Crnojević
The most powerful ruler (1465-1490) of the third Montenegrin state dynasty Crnojević. At the end of the 15th C (in 1482) he founded Cetinje - the future heart of Montenegro, a military refuge in which the millennium of the Montenegrin Middle Ages was placed. Fleeing from the invasion of the Turks, he moved his throne from Žabljak Crnojevića to Obod - Rijeka Crnojevića, and finally to Cetinje's field, where he built a court and a monastery. The town was named after the river that flowed there (until the 17th C), and it was called Cetina. Although he was the ruler of one of the smallest European states - he marked his time. His struggle and visionary moves made that this Renaissance ruler and warrior leave a mark that will label Montenegrin history. Zeta survived under his rule as the last point of defense, and as his legacy, Montenegro will become the first point of resistance.
